How early, did you say? That’s right; you can’t start early enough. If you’re stalling because you don’t have a complete picture, just state what you know as soon as you know it. Tell people when they expect to learn more. Surprises are good when they come in the form of birthday parties, not when something you use or do every day is going away.

Maybe your internal communications or marketing team is helping with a change communication plan. Or maybe you put together your own change management task force; however you assemble the team, be sure someone is taking the view of those impacted. Who needs to know what? And as far as this change goes, what’s in it for them?
